Description
Aim of the event:
  • Raise Awareness
Goal of the event:
The goal was to raise awareness for the struggle of people with hearing impairment and show that sign language is a language just like any other language, only without using your voice.
Short description of the event:
We started with a short introduction about the history of sign language. Afterwards we learned the alphabeth and to spell our name like that. Everybody had to come up with a sign for one's own name. The most basic words were thaught and to memorize them we played some games. As another big part of the session we also looked at how music works for deaf people. Our tutor already recorded songs where she signs the song. So at the end we tried to translate songs into sign language together. The last activity we did was to fill out a paper, where signs for letters were pictured to form to sentence: It’s kind of fun to do the impossible.
How did your event go?:
The workshop itself went great. However we would have wished for more participants.
