Goal of the event:
Visually impaired people have really different world and difficult life in this world. We would like to help them reading a book. Sometimes, one book might take one person to wonderlands. They want to break their obstacles down in their imagination, and we want to take them from this difficult world because they also need to know something about any object or to go to somewhere which is really far away from this world.
Short description of the event:
Books help people to see other worlds; for instance, we sometimes travel far away countries, sometimes find ourselves in a horror or science fiction movies, or sometimes go back our old memories. On the other hand, there are some people, who are with obstacles, cannot get these experiences by themselves. We would like to be voice for these kinds of people and to read book for them. For this reason, we visited Partially-Sighted Technology and Education Center in Boğaziçi University. There are two small and well-equipped rooms for recording the books. We went into these rooms one by one to read and record books. There was a recording screen and a microphone in isolated rooms. When we started to read, the record had already started. If we were their eyes and voice, it would be perfect experience, travel, or an old memory for visually impaired people.
How did your event go?:
Firstly, when we saw the director of this center, we were surprised because he was also visually challenged. All of us were so excited how to communicate him but luckily he made us to keep calm. Exchange students had really different emotions because they told that their voices would help other people even they don’t know each other. When we started to record, we were a little bit shy in the begging but after a while, everything was perfect.
