Goal of the event:
Two ESN sections of Budapest (ESN Semmelweis and ESN SZIE), we decided to organize again the Beginner Sign Language Course together during the sring semester. Despite the last semester now we have two groups, one American Sign Language Group and one Hungarian Signlauge group, where the hearing students can learn the basics in the two kind of Sign Languages.
Short description of the event:
Have you ever heard about a SIGN LANGUAGE? A sign language is a language which chiefly uses manual communication to convey meaning, as opposed to acoustically conveyed sound patterns. This can involve simultaneously combining hand shapes, orientation and movement of the hands, arms or body, and facial expressions to express a speaker's thoughts. Wherever communities of deaf people exist, sign languages have developed, and are at the cores of local deaf cultures. Although signing is used primarily by the deaf, it is also used by others, such as people who can hear, but cannot physically speak. It is not clear how many sign languages there are. A common misconception is that all sign languages are the same worldwide or that sign language is international. Each country generally has its own, native sign language, and some have more than one. The 2013 edition of Ethnologue lists 137 sign languages. We organized a little sign language course, when the students could learn the basics, how can they "say" hello, sorry, bye, numbers, alphabet, colors... Who was the teacher? Students from University who are interested in sign language and who are learning signs. They are learning two different types of Sign Language, you can learn Hungarian Sign Language and Ameican Sign Language.
How did your event go?:
With 30 ASL students and 12 HSL students it was really succesful events :)
They enjoyed the time with us, we are so happy and we got lot of motivation again :)
