Goal of the event:
To introduce the life of a blind person in Estonia to the students, heighten their other senses during the dinner by tying their eyes and to give them an extraordinary experience.
Short description of the event:
The students were met by our voluteer and brought to the cafe. We had the whole floor to ourselves and a nice romantic setting with dimmed lights. The students were divided into teams and blindfolded. Next we had a short introduction after which a girl from the North-Estonian Blind Association came and spoke to the students about her backround and how she lost her sight and gave some tips what to do during the dinner. She also told them to try to guess what she looks like (in the end the students were able to see her and talk to her without the blindfolds and share what they thought she looks like just by her voice).
Then we started with the dinner - we had four courses with a guessing game of the ingredients, plus a guessing game of just smelling some food items in jars without being able to touch them. After the activities we talked some more with the represetative from the Blind Association and announced the winners. Everyone was able to ask her questions and she explained how to help a visually impaired person in public places so that everyone feels comfortable with it.
How did your event go?:
It went very smoothly and well. Everyone enjoyed the evening, the games, the talks and learning about how they can help a visually impaired person without making it an awkward situaton. The feedback was really good.
