Description
Aim of the event:
  • Raise Awareness
Goal of the event:
"Labyrinth of Senses" is a Disability Awareness workshop created by Gabriela Telelekfalvi and its aim is to make people think and do little things of their daily life in a different way so as to promote the right to be different and to love yourself for being who you really are.
Short description of the event:
In order for someone to cross the Labyrinth of Senses, they have to use sight, hearing, smell and taste as their tools to go through all the different stations. When many erasmus students and esners arrived, we splitted them into equal groups and guided them to a different station each, in order for everyone to be able to experience the Labyrinth in the same time. One station was the "eyesight loss" stage, where the participants were again splitted into groups of two, one person was blindfolded and had to go through a labyrinth with obstacles with the help of his partner, who guided him with his instructions. The point was to focus on hearing ,even though eyesight was missing. After passing that station, the participants came across another one ,where again blindfolded they had to ,this time, focus on their touch. That is because we were giving them to touch and analyze various materials that we use or see in everyday life, like an onion, a flower etc. and they had to guess what it was. After that came the "Whisper Challenge" station, where the erasmus students and the esners were splitted into groups of two, with one person listening to loud music and having to guess the words that were being whispered to him by his partner. The aim of this station was to show how the loss of hearing can affect our lives. Furthermore, the fourth station had to do with a physical disability and had two stages. The participants on the first stage had to place a ball between their knees and walk until the second stage, where they had to change the position of the ball and put it between their ankles and walk again until they reached a basket, where they had to put the ball. If the ball fell ,then the participants had to try again from the beginning. Last but not least, the fifth station had to do again with physical disability, since we taped the participants' thumb to the inside of their hand,so that they couldnt use it and asked them to do something they do everyday, like tie their shoes. At the end of each station, we asked the participants what they thought about it and about disability in general and we discussed why raising awareness is crucial.
How did your event go?:
"Labyrinth of Senses" attracted many erasmus people and esners, who participated actively in all the different stations of the Labyrinth. Actually, most of the erasmus students wanted to repeat most of the stations. Furthermore, after discussing with them about the importance of raising awareness and them taking an active role in the conversation, it's safe to assume that the event was very successful, since it was both fun and educating.
