Description
Aim of the event:
  • Promote mobility
  • Raise Awareness
  • Make ESN Accessible
Goal of the event:
The goal of the event was to raise awareness of the ExchangeAbility project and challenges that some disabled persons may face at University or more generally. There was a specific focus on challenging stereotypes and myths surrounding disabilities.
Short description of the event:
During 'Fika in the Dark' students were encouraged to explain how they felt not being able to see. Some students expressed that it had made them feel quite vulnerable. ESN members spoke to students whilst they were blindfolded and the students made assumptions as to how each other looked based on their conversations and stereotypes attached to countries of origin and hobbies.

Using Kahoot, ESN Lund designed an interactive quiz that challenged stereotypes and myths about disability. Students joined the quiz on their mobile phones and played against each other. After each question the answer/stereotype was explained by an ESN member.

Inspired by the ‘no thumbs’ drawing challenge, students restricted their movement by using tape to bind their hands. They then tried to draw or write. Most students struggled at first but adapted to the restrictions on their movement and came up with new ways of moving to achieve their goal of drawing.

Throughout the evening an ESN member introduced students to 'mapping' and the aims of ExchangeAbility.
How did your event go?:
The event went really well. The students who attended were really involved with the activity and ESN Lund received a lot of positive feedback.
