Goal of the event:
Raise awareness between the International students who are studying in Cartagena, Spain, and even so in 8 year-old children, students of Primary Education, through a “five senses gymkhana”. Put in the disabled people's shoes by doing common things like touching objects and smelling things.
Short description of the event:
We prepared a gymkhana composed by 5 games. In each game, children should pass different tasks. In the first one, children should identify different smells with covered eyes, in other words, just using the smell sense. Secondly, they had to identify some objects with covered eyes as well. They should touch the objects and say what it could be, just with the information they got by touching. Then, children had to play the game called: “Broken telephone”. It consists of passing a message one by one. We took advantage of the international students and they said words and sentences in their languages that children should have to guess. The other activity consisted of dancing a typical Indian dance. Finally, children had to form the ESN letters with their bodies.
Each activity had a duration of 5 minutes and children were passing for every task.
How did your event go?:
Children loved it. For them it was so interesting and exciting receiving the visit of international students, it broke with their routine. Generally speaking, children liked all the activities we prepared. However, some children felt uncomfortable wearing covered eyes. They said they felt faint sometimes.
