Goal of the event:
Not knowing how to act or respond to someone very different can be scary, especially for a young person. What if he can't shake hands? Should I pat him on the shoulder? Maybe she walks unsteadily. Will she fall? Will I hurt her if I try to help? What if I say the wrong thing? We all have this kind of questions and the key point to this event was to inform people about disability awareness by giving them brochures.
Short description of the event:
A disability is something that lands someone in a special education classroom, work environment, life conditions. People with disabilities are separated from the rest, and they have to face much more diffuculties in their daily lives. This, however, should not be the case. A disability is not something that someone wants sympathies for. He does not want people to feel sorry for him or her. A person with a disability just wants a normal life. The society, especially young people, have to be informed more about this issue because the future will be shaped by their attitudes. For this reason, we taught that some impressive pictures, information and tips with a brochure might be an useful activity for starting more action. The aim was taking attention by providing necessary and useful knowledge about disabilities. The prepared broshures then gave to both local and erasmus students.
How did your event go?:
Members of our local ESN section and Erasmus enjoyed it and after the event we discussed about what we are doing wrong and what's going wrong in our country and then we thought about "what could change?"
