Description
Aim of the event:
  • Raise Awareness
Goal of the event:
Invisible Exhibition is an existing exhibition in Stockholm which aims at raising awareness of blindness/visual impairment and how the everyday life can be for a person who is blind/visually impaied.
Short description of the event:
The Invisible Exhibition is an already existing exhibition in Stockholm which uses guides that are blind/visually impaired themselves, and the participants start with typing their name in braille, and thereafter they enter a room that is completely dark. After a few seconds, it is impossible to see anything.

During one hour, the participants (in groups of 8) are lead trough 'a house' and its different rooms (kitchen, bathroom, living room, office and so on). By using other senses, they find their way forward. Thereafter, they experience art - sculptures and fountains, and the public sphere consisting of a market place, crossroads, bikes and cars, and how a day by the sea can be, as well as the atmosphere in a café/pub and trying to order drinks.
How did your event go?:
All participants were very satisfied with the event, and found it interesting and important. It addressed things you normally don't think about since blindness is not an issue for most students. How to cross a road? How to know the right book in the bookshelf, or take the right can of coke in the fridge? How to know which sculpture is presented at an art exhibition?

We will try to go there again, and make this a regular ESN SU event addressing ExchangeAbiity.
