Goal of the event:
Raise the awareness through the disability between the erasmus students who are carrying out their Erasmus studies in Cartagena, Spain. So that, putting in the shoes of artists with some disability such as blind people, deaf people, mute people.
Short description of the event:
An Open Mic consists of putting in the middle a microphone and giving to the students the opportunity of interpreting what they wanted. There were two microphones, a guitar and a keyboard, they could sing and play as much as they wanted.
This activity is an activity we usually do every semester. Taking advantage of the ExchangeAbility Week, we wanted the Erasmus students to experiment what disabled artists feel when they are performing. For that, we did some performances with different disabilities. First, a girl who can speak sign language taught us how to sing the chorus of a song. Then, we all sang that song with sign language. She interpreted the full song.
The following interpretations, the artists were playing with covered eyes. They played the piano and the guitar without seeing nothing. In other ones, the audience had covered eyes, so they had to enjoy the show without seeing the artist.
How did your event go?:
Firstly, students showed a bit negative to act as a disabled people do. They did not want to participate because they were quite scared. Their reactions were totally acceptable, since we got they felt what disabled people feel. They understood how difficult could be, so our goal was gotten. I would like to say that when a student made the effort to perform as disabled artist, the audience valued more his/her show!
