Goal of the event:
This activity was part of a trip in Britanny, we wanted to show to the students something differents that they are to do.
But even more, we wanted to show that even disabled people can practice sports
Short description of the event:
It happened during a short week-end in Britanny with international students from all the local sections.
During saturday morning, International Students were able to try three different parasports :
- basketball in a wheelchair : to start, they had to try to use the weelchair, and once they did it, we gave them the ball to practice a bit before try to play by pair of two.
- the second sport is called "boccia", it is a kind of french "petanque", but played seated and with different kind of balls adapted to different disabilities..
- the last sport is called "kin-ball". the main distinctive characteristics are the big size of the ball (about 1.5 meters in diameter) and that the matches are played among three teams at the same time.Each team has 4 players. When the game starts, the player at the center throws the ball up while yelling the word "Omnikin" and the corresponding color of a team. The named team must catch the ball before it touches the floor. The catching team must have three players holding the ball from below, each player with one leg bent and with both hands on the ball. The remaining player may stand, then hit the ball with his/her hands while clearly yelling "Omnikin" and the colour of another team which will then run and catch the ball.
Members of a local association were there to teach us how to play to the different games.
How did your event go?:
The event went very well. At the beginning the students where a bit sceptical, but eventually, they had a lot of fun.
It's the fourth time that we organise this week-end, and each time it's a total success.
