Goal of the event:
The aim of this event was to make international students aware of what the deaf daylife is like. Which difficulties they find, which possibilities they have in order to communicate with people and how they do it.
Short description of the event:
We made this event with help from Aspanpal, an organization that works with parents and children with problems related to hearing and language. First of all, we (ESN) explained which is the aim of ExchangeAbility project, why did we decide to do this event and which was also the goal of the event. Then, the organization Aspanpal started to talk about the existing various levels of hearing loss, different devices to improve the hearing of the deaf and the grants that the organization have. Later, a Spanish sign language teacher taught the international student some basic things about the sign language and, at the end, we let the students practice and show what they learned.
How did your event go?:
It was good. The only thing is that for the international students the first part of the workshop (the one related to devices for the deaf and levels of hearing loss) became a bit long and they preferred to practice the Spanish sign language.
