Description
Aim of the event:
  • Raise Awareness
  • Make ESN Accessible
Goal of the event:
Since arms are a vital part for executing everyday activities, the lives of these people can be extremely challenging.
To better understand their struggle, we have tried to do simple activities that we normally do each day like tying our shoelaces, tying our hair, putting on a coat and writing, without the help of our second arm.
Short description of the event:
As ESN Bogazici, we have carried out our very first activity for the 20th-26th March ExchangeAbility Week: Using One Hand Challenge.
There are millions of amputees worldwide and due to reasons like vascular diseases, traumas or war, many more people are being disabled each day and amputees who have lost some part, or the entirety of their arms make up about a third of the total number. Since arms are a vital part for executing everyday activities, the lives of these people can be extremely challenging.
To better understand their struggle, we have tried to do simple activities that we normally do each day like tying our shoelaces, tying our hair, putting on a coat and writing, without the help of our second arm. We had a great deal of struggle doing some of them, and some was nearly impossible for us to manage. This led us to stop, think and understand the lives of the amputees and made it easier for us to empathize with them.
How did your event go?:
We had a great deal of struggle doing some of them, and some was nearly impossible for us to manage. This led us to stop, think and understand the lives of the amputees and made it easier for us to empathize with them.
